Description: The Onshore General Site Manager is to act as the onsite Client Representative during the site initial designs, constructability assessments and planning of the works, prepare for site establishment and later construction of the Onshore Electrical Substation and associated onshore works. Supports the HVDC Package Manager through the construction phase, and manages all aspects of the Client’s site duties under the Contract. The role will co-ordinate the Client Site Representatives and ensure that all site related information is coordinated between the supporting functions within the project.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the onsite Client Representative during the site initial designs, constructability assessments and planning and later construction and handover of the works.
  • Support the HVDC Package Manager through the construction phase, managing all aspects of the Client’s site duties under the Contract.
  • Facilitate resolution of site-based issues to ensure that employers risks are mitigated through regular/adhoc meetings, discussions, ensuring adequate recording of such.
  • Have experience in site management of HV substation construction, including technical knowledge of civil engineering, HV Mechanical & Electrical Installations, testing & commissioning of HV systems and cables.
  • Manage all onshore substation site management activities with respect to the onshore works including Health, Safety, Environment, Security, Maintenance pre-Handover.
  • Become familiar with the Contracts, Consent Management Plans, Leases, Designs, Construction Phase Health & Safety Plan, package interfaces, the Employers Requirements (specifications) and any relevant contractors documentation.
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including National Grid, Associated Works Contractors and Client Senior Management.
  • Support resolution of client programme risk issues, including relating to Package interfaces.
  • Provide co-ordination of all site resources within the onshore client site team, supported by the project engineers, quality inspectors, health & safety inspectors, environmental consultants, consents personnel etc.
  • Liaise with the Commissioning Manager who is responsible for operating the HV Safety Rules for all energised plant.
  • Support the interface planning activities with National Grid and the Onshore Cables Team.
  • Report to senior leadership and the project as required.
  • Ensure that the Contractor is fulfilling their duties of the Principal Contractor for the onshore substation site under CDM.
  • Supervise and record all onshore works relevant to the HVDC substation and grid connection ensuring compliance with the defined health, safety, quality and technical standards.
  • Design & Implement an effective handover process for the onshore site from construction, commissioning to O&M.

DELIVERABLES:

  • Safe delivery of the Electrical transmission system for the project including continued development, construction and handover to operations, closeout of commercial aspects and delivery of all as built documentation for all associated packages.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) or equivalent required.
  • High level safety qualifications such as NEBOSH would be an advantage.

MUST HAVE QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Extensive experience as a Site Manager role on HV substation construction projects including the integration of equipment throughout the build construction and installation process.
  • A proven track record in civil engineering, and HV substation site construction management.
  • An excellent understanding of the range of available civil engineering techniques, including HDD with a practical approach to implementation.
  • Business proficient in English.
  • Role is site based and expectation is that the role is performed therefore at the site location.

NOTE: This JP has 2 positions, one for each of the below locations: NO ADDITIONAL TRAVEL COSTS TO/FROM THE BASE LOCATIONS MAY BE CHARGED.

Position 1: Base location Necton Onshore Substation, Swaffham, Norfolk. PE37 8EG. Travel also required to Swindon office, London Project Office and Coventry Office as required.

Position 2: The base location will initially be the London DBS offices and will then change to the Onshore Substation site (TBA) when site activities commence with travel to London, Swindon and Coventry offices or other locations as required.
