THE ROLE

As a subject matter expert (SME) in spectral geology and/or remote sensing geology on the Mining & Energy team, your responsibility will focus primarily on supporting M & E clients who are interested in receiving guidance and support in the use of our remote-sensing expertise to help with their mineral exploration projects, or who may be future users of Marigold, our flagship software for global geological mineral mapping. This Spectral Geologist role will report to the VP of Mining and Energy, and receive mentorship from our RS Technical Lead, our Principal Remote Sensing Geologist. The primary focus of the role will be technical support in the application of remote sensing principles of alteration and lithological mapping using our Marigold software for a wide variety of mineral deposit types. This role will provide remote sensing expertise and support during sales calls and post-sale with prospective clients, to support them in their mineral exploration targeting objectives through either a consulting engagement (SoW), or a Marigold subscription. This role will require collaboration with pre-sales and sales EDA personnel, as well as with other SMEs / technical members of the team. You will also support Marigold onboarding and training. With time and experience you will also assist the SME RS team in scoping and executing projects for our clients who opt to engage with us on RS consulting projects (SoW's).

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the EDA sales team and our RS Technical Lead to develop functional remote sensing proposals that meet our Mining customers' needs for greenfield exploration projects.
  • Engage with EDA's in-house SMEs and geological RS SMEs to develop and deliver novel scope of work documents incorporating both MS and HSI mapping capabilities to help close deals with new mining clients.
  • Develop and propose geological remote sensing engagement and training solutions with mining clients, helping to secure new or renewal Marigold subscriptions.
  • Join sales calls to provide technical guidance to prospective mining clients and represent the domains of exploration, spectral geology, multispectral (MS) and hyperspectral (HSI) data mineral mapping, and in time, the role of RS mapping, machine learning and AI in mineral deposit prediction.

Marigold Training, Consulting Projects & Development Support

  • Work closely with the RS Geol SME team to develop competencies in using Marigold processing such that you can help support training for both MS and HSI Marigold clients.
  • Work with the RS Geol SME team to develop competencies in using Marigold to design, undertake and deliver (incl. interpretation) of MS and HSI consulting projects for our mining clients.
  • Using these developed competencies, work with the RS Geol SMEs to help support Marigold testing as requested by the M & E Product Development team.

Your Past Missions

  • Graduate degree (MSc. or Ph.D.) with a focus on Geological Remote Sensing, Geochemistry, Mineralogy or similar specialty.
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as Geology or Geological Engineering.
  • ~5+ years of experience in mineral exploration required. Could be as a project geologist or consultant, using geological RS data in MinEx / mineral mapping of ore deposits using RS data such as ASTER, Sentinel-2, WorldView-3, airborne hyperspectral data (Aviris, HyMap or SpecTIR) or new HS spaceborne data sources such as EnMap, PRISMA or EMIT.
  • Proficiency in remote sensing software (i.e. Marigold, ENVI, others) required.
  • Field experience with spectral radiometers (i.e. ASD TerraSpec/FieldSpec, TerraSpec Halo, etc.) and ground truthing for mineral mapping preferred.
  • Experience with GIS software preferred.
  • Experience working with clients; consulting preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to research, develop, and implement solutions to novel problems a plus.
