We're recruiting for a Senior Motor Trade Underwriter to join a leading UK insurer's Commercial Lines team, supporting profitable development across the Midlands, North, and Scotland regions within the Mid-Market portfolio. This is a relationship-driven underwriting role where you'll use your motor trade expertise to underwrite new business, manage existing portfolios, and build long-term partnerships with Mid-Market brokers.
Working in a genuinely flexible hybrid environment (2 days per week in the Manchester office), you'll have autonomy to underwrite bespoke commercial motor trade risks, conduct regular on-site underwriting at broker offices, and contribute to portfolio growth through strong stakeholder relationships and collaborative trading.
Key Responsibilities:- Underwrite bespoke commercial motor trade risks in line with underwriting strategy and criteria, supporting profitable growth across both new and existing business, while conducting regular on-site underwriting at broker offices.
- Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with a panel of Mid-Market brokers, working collaboratively within agreed authority limits and referring cases where appropriate.
- Keep up to date with market developments, legislation, and trends that may impact underwriting decisions while clearly communicating and promoting commercial motor trade products to brokers.
- Support the development of the commercial lines portfolio by strengthening existing broker relationships and encouraging new partnerships across the Midlands, North, and Scotland regions.
- Experience in underwriting and trading commercial motor products with strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
- Aware of market, legal, and industry developments affecting motor trade underwriting with the ability to manage and prioritize work effectively across a varied portfolio.
- Clear, confident communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts positively and build credibility with broker partners.
