This is a broad, visible role sitting close to senior underwriting leadership, offering the opportunity to work across underwriting, risk, compliance, actuarial, finance, operations and MI. The successful individual will help ensure that underwriting activity is well controlled, consistently documented and aligned to business appetite, while also supporting the delivery of key performance, planning and review processes.
The role would suit someone with a strong understanding of underwriting governance, underwriting controls, underwriting operations or risk oversight within a regulated insurance or reinsurance environment. You do not need to be an underwriter, but you will need to understand how underwriting decisions are made, monitored and governed.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the ongoing development of underwriting governance frameworks, controls and procedures.
- Helping to ensure underwriting authorities, referrals, review processes and documentation standards are applied consistently.
- Working with underwriting teams to review adherence to appetite, pricing discipline, governance requirements and internal processes.
- Coordinating underwriting file reviews, peer reviews and post-bind quality assurance activity.
- Identifying gaps, inconsistencies or areas for improvement and working with stakeholders to implement practical solutions.
- Supporting business planning, portfolio performance monitoring and underwriting review processes.
- Producing clear reporting and insight for senior stakeholders, committees and internal governance forums.
- Acting as a key point of contact for underwriting governance queries, reviews and related internal requirements.
- Partnering with teams across underwriting, risk, compliance, audit, actuarial, finance, operations and MI to embed governance requirements into day-to-day ways of working.
- Supporting the rollout of new underwriting tools, templates, process improvements and appetite changes.
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Experience gained within insurance, reinsurance or the London Market.
- A background in underwriting governance, underwriting oversight, risk, controls, quality assurance, audit or performance management.
- A good understanding of underwriting processes, authority controls, referrals, risk appetite and governance frameworks.
- Experience working in a regulated environment where documentation, controls and process discipline are important.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively and influence senior colleagues.
- Excellent organisation, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear, useful insight.
- A pragmatic, commercially aware approach, balancing governance discipline with the realities of underwriting teams and business delivery.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of underwriting, governance and performance management. The role offers high levels of exposure, variety and influence, with the chance to help shape how underwriting governance is embedded across a specialist insurance and reinsurance environment.
