We're recruiting for a New Business Trading Underwriter - Property & Liability to join a leading UK insurer's Leeds team. This role offers clear underwriting authority to manage your own new business portfolio, writing quality profitable business and building long-term broker relationships in the regional market. You'll have real exposure to broker trading, technical decision-making, and portfolio ownership with support available for more complex risks within a large, established insurer.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite profitable new business across Property and Liability within agreed authority levels, managing your own portfolio and making sound technical and commercial underwriting decisions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and key customers in the regional market, providing clear and timely technical guidance while delivering great customer outcomes.
- Manage and develop your own portfolio to deliver growth and performance targets, working autonomously within authority levels while collaborating on more complex cases.
- Work closely with colleagues across trading, underwriting, and operations to achieve the best customer outcomes while maintaining FCA compliance and underwriting governance standards.
Qualifications
- Proven experience underwriting Property and Liability risks in the commercial or mid-market space with strong technical decision-making ability and commercial mindset.
- Strong broker-facing and relationship management skills with confident decision-making capabilities and ability to provide clear technical guidance to stakeholders.
- Good understanding of FCA regulation, underwriting governance, and experience working within a large or complex insurance organisation.
