About the role

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Lecturer – Electrical (Construction) to join our Construction department at the Construction Centre of Excellence, Southall Community Campus. You will deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across Electrical and Construction study programmes, supporting learners to achieve their full potential. The role involves classroom and workshop-based delivery, learner support, assessment activities and contribution to curriculum development, ensuring programmes remain industry-relevant and aligned with awarding body and College requirements. Where appropriate, you may take responsibility for leading a designated study programme or course, including curriculum planning, quality assurance and evaluation.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and effective teaching, training and assessment across Electrical and Construction programmes.
  • Prepare lesson plans, schemes of work and high‑quality teaching materials in line with College guidelines and awarding body requirements.
  • Act as a Personal Tutor, providing academic and pastoral support and delivering the College tutorial programme.
  • Monitor learner attendance, progress, behaviour and achievement, taking appropriate action where required, including withdrawals, transfers and destinations.
  • Create a stimulating learning environment, making effective use of workshop facilities, equipment and learning technologies.
  • Integrate English and Maths into vocational teaching and deliver GCSE and/or Functional Skills English and Maths where required.
  • Act as an internal assessor and internal verifier as required.
  • Support learner recruitment activities, including course marketing, open evenings, learner interviews and pre‑entry guidance.
  • Organise and support external activities, visits, employer engagement and work placements to enhance learner experience.
  • Contribute to the achievement of recruitment, attendance, retention, achievement, progression and destination targets.
  • Promote and maintain high standards of health & safety, safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Contribute to quality improvement processes, including self‑assessment, course review and evaluation.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date vocational knowledge, including emerging technologies, sustainability, energy efficiency and low‑carbon practices.
  • Meet minimum occupational competence and undertake ongoing CPD to support continuous improvement.

Programme Leader responsibilities (where applicable)

  • Lead curriculum planning, design and delivery to meet learner needs and local skills priorities.
  • Coordinate delivery teams and ensure compliance with awarding body and College requirements.
  • Monitor learner progress, behaviour and outcomes, including English, Maths and work experience.
  • Lead internal verification activities and liaise with awarding bodies and validating institutions.
