Ealing Council has an exciting new opportunity as a Respite Support Worker available on a full-time shift work pattern. Shortbreaks is a CQC registered learning disabilities service that supports adults with learning disabilities.

Role: Assist in providing a safe, homely respite environment for service users, supporting them individually and corporately to achieve their best potential within an Equal Opportunities and Quality Assurance framework. Participate directly and indirectly in the physical and emotional care of all service users referred to the unit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support and care to customers, delivering acceptable levels of material, physical, psychological and emotional support within an Equal Opportunities framework.
  • Assess customers’ needs, including material, physical and emotional aspects, and seek advice or consultation when appropriate.
  • Support customers through admission, discharge and unplanned admissions to the unit.
  • Prepare, implement, monitor and review support plans for individual customers, helping them progress towards more independent living, working with families, carers and other professionals.
  • Work cooperatively as part of a staff team, attend team meetings, training and take professional and managerial supervision.
  • Support people with complex behaviours or specific physical vulnerabilities following support plans and positive behaviour programmes.
  • Write reports and carry out administrative tasks related to casework, support plans and risk assessments, in accordance with statutory, council, departmental and service procedures.
  • Maintain the unit’s safety and hygiene standards, reporting any issues to the Unit Manager and ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation.
  • Protect the safety of yourself and others, cooperating with managers to achieve a safe workplace.
  • Enable customers to maintain contact with friends, family, social workers, GP’s, community nurses, therapists and other customers within the unit.
  • Perform duties at varying levels of responsibility or skill, as required by the Registered Manager or Senior Line Management.
  • Work shift-based rota, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and occasional night duties.

Professional Development: Enable self-development by maintaining mandatory training requirements and further developing skills that benefit customers and the service.

The role is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and to the council’s enhanced vetting process. You must have the right to work in the UK. Evidence may be requested at the interview stage.
