Are you an experienced acoustics professional looking for a role where you can make a real impact?
Ealing is one of London's largest and most diverse boroughs, with a wide range of environmental challenges and major regeneration projects. We are looking for a highly skilled Principal Environmental Protection Officer (Acoustics) to join our Environmental Protection Team and lead on complex noise and vibration matters across the borough.

This is a specialist role with responsibility for providing expert technical advice on environmental noise issues arising from construction activity, commercial and industrial operations, major infrastructure projects and new developments. You will be the Council's lead acoustics officer, working closely with planning, enforcement and external partners to protect residents and shape the future environment of Ealing.

The role offers a varied and interesting workload including:

  • Leading on complex noise and vibration investigations.
  • Providing specialist advice on planning applications and major developments.
  • Assessing Construction and Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs).
  • Processing Section 61 applications under the Control of Pollution Act 1974.
  • Undertaking noise surveys and technical assessments.
  • Developing local policy, guidance and action plans.
  • Representing the Council in discussions with key stakeholders including the GLA, Defra, Environment Agency and major infrastructure projects.

About you

You will have substantial experience working in environmental protection, environmental noise or acoustics and will possess strong technical knowledge of noise legislation, assessment methodologies and relevant British Standards.

You will be confident working independently on complex cases whilst also supporting colleagues and providing expert advice across the service.

An Institute of Acoustics (IOA) Diploma, or an equivalent postgraduate qualification in acoustics or environmental noise, is essential.
