Ealing is often referred to as the ‘Queen of the Suburbs’ because of its award-winning parks, green spaces and a general ‘country in London’ feel. Ealing is also a culturally vibrant London Borough with thriving communities in the heart of West London, an enviable investment programme, served by a Council that is proactive, outcomes focused and ambitious about the future.

As a result of the Government’s Fair Funding Review 2.0, the council sits uniquely placed to focus its efforts on utilising its updated funding allocation to uplift and invest in genuine reform, prevention and member priorities, which support long-term financial sustainability.

If you are ready to take the next step in your career, this is a fantastic opportunity to gain excellent experience under a progressive Finance leadership team, contributing to shaping and influencing positive outcomes for residents.

We are seeking an Accountant within our Children’s Finance team. The role will deliver Finance Business Partnering support across Children’s Social Care with a focus on specific areas. This brings the opportunity to work closely with a range of stakeholders, including Service Managers, Assistant Directors and external partners.

You will support delivery of quarterly budget monitoring (monthly for high-risk budgets), ensuring that reporting is accurate, clear and well informed, to ensure that the Council’s financial projections are robust. You will also support all the operational aspects of our Finance function; everything from preparing our annual revenue budget to closing the accounts, as well as having oversight of significant grant funding streams and completing statutory returns.

This is a great opportunity to work alongside a dynamic and demand led service area, whilst contributing to all aspects of the annual budget cycle.

You will hold a CCAB/CIMA qualification or be expecting to complete the qualification within 6 months of appointment. You will also be a confident and articulate finance professional who understands and exemplifies effective relationship management and is committed to supporting services to perform at their best, shaped by quality service delivery and positive outcomes. You will be adept at explaining complex financial issues to non-accountants.

Ealing is a fantastic place to work, and we offer a range of employee benefits, including flexible working, pension and a real opportunity to both make a difference and progress your career. Our offices are easily accessible, with step free access and located in a lively and eclectic town centre in the heart of Ealing.

The addition of the Elizabeth line along with two other tube lines (Central and District) means that public transport options are plentiful and it takes less than 15 minutes to get to central London. In addition, there are a multitude of buses available and other sustainable transport options.

This position is a hybrid role, and as a senior officer you will be expected to attend meetings in person where required in accordance with the needs of the service and finance departments.

Ealing Council is committed to creating good jobs and delivering on its connected communities’ agenda. We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and inclusive. We therefore welcome applications from all residents of the borough, particularly from candidates who are entering the employment market in the early stages of their career and mid-career professionals, who are currently underrepresented in Ealing’s workforce. Please note all applications will be determined on merit. You must have the right to work in the UK. Evidence for the right to work in the UK will be requested at the interview stage.

Ealing council is committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff to share this commitment.
