Position: Full-time, Temporary - 2 year fixed term contract (or secondment opportunity for internal employees)
Ealing Council have two exciting new opportunities as Envirocrime Enforcement Officers available on a full time, fixed term basis. This pivotal role plays a key part in protecting the local environment and enhancing the quality of life for residents by tackling environmental crime effectively and sensitively. This is an opportunity to help combat fly-tipping, littering, and other environmental crime issues in the borough. The post holder will be lone working and able to carry out site inspections.
As an Envirocrime Prevention Officer, you will be at the forefront of identifying, investigating, and preventing environmental offences such as fly-tipping, graffiti, littering, and dog fouling. Your commitment and vigilance will help maintain the borough's reputation as a clean, safe, and welcoming place to live and work.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and patrol designated areas within the borough to detect and prevent environmental crimes.
- Investigate reports of environmental offences, gather evidence, and prepare case files for enforcement action.
- Engage with members of the public, local businesses, and community groups to raise awareness of environmental issues and promote responsible behaviour.
- Issue Fixed Penalty Notices and other enforcement measures in accordance with council policies and legal requirements.
- Work collaboratively with council departments, the police, and external agencies to tackle environmental crime and improve community safety.
- Maintain accurate records and provide regular reports on enforcement activities and outcomes.
- Participate in community outreach initiatives and educational campaigns to support environmental stewardship.
- Keep up-to-date with relevant legislation, policies, and best practices relating to environmental enforcement.
Requirements
- Command of written and spoken English (mandatory)
- A working knowledge of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (desirable)
- Working knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Highways Act 1980 (desirable)
- Creative problem solving skills (mandatory)
- Attention to detail (mandatory)
- Ability to converse with the public with empathy and tact (mandatory)
- Experience in an enforcement role for a local council or similar (desirable)
- Ability to use IT systems and an ability and willingness to learn and adapt to change (mandatory)
- Ability to remain focused when dealing with unhelpful, abusive, intimidating or antisocial behaviour (mandatory)
