Exciting opportunity for an Operations Technical Lead for a Trading Platform Sustainability project to join this global Commodities Trading Company. This is a fantastic opportunity for a hands-on Operations Technical Lead to drive a programme to stabilise one of the core internal trading platforms and strengthen its resilience. You’ll investigate complex production issues yourself, work closely with engineering, infrastructure, data and support teams and see problems through to resolution. It is not an architecture or advisory position and the project requires someone who is equally at home in the logs and in front of senior stakeholders. Part of this operations stability will include a legacy application called DEX but experience of this is not essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical investigation and root-cause analysis of stability, performance and resilience issues, ensuring fixes tackle causes rather than symptoms
  • Get into the detail: logs, configurations, data flows, environments and database behaviour
  • Define and manage Non-Functional Requirements (resilience, availability, performance, recoverability, capacity, supportability)
  • Assess application, infrastructure, database and integration dependencies to identify vulnerabilities
  • Challenge and shape technical designs so they meet operational and sustainability needs
  • Lead the technical side of testing, release, deployment and production readiness
  • Partner with the programme PM to turn priorities, dependencies and risks into an executable delivery plan
  • Support stabilisation after implementation and the transition into BAU
  • Communicate complex issues, options and trade-offs clearly to senior technical and business stakeholders

Essential Experience:

  • 10+ years in complex enterprise technology environments, with ETRM and trading technology experience
  • Proven ability to personally troubleshoot complex production issues, with strong grounding in incident and problem management, service performance and operational stability
  • Technical leadership across both solution direction and detailed problem-solving, with strong influencing and facilitation skills
  • Breadth across the stack: applications, data/databases, infrastructure, integrations and operational support
  • Good knowledge of environments, resilience, release management and change control
  • Track record of defining and delivering NFRs and taking solutions through production implementation and service transition
  • Platform stabilisation, technical debt reduction and operational transformation experience, including disaster recovery and business continuity
  • Legacy/mainframe and database awareness, with experience across legacy and modern architectures, plus understanding of cloud, SaaS, data and digital platforms and data management
  • Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical issues in clear business language

This needs combining with a positive attitude and an ability to work within a large, globally dispersed project team in a multi-cultural environment. You also need to be a self-starter, a logical thinker and a quick learner, with strong initiative and excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, able to write clearly and concisely.
