We are looking for a Depot Manager for our Newton Abbot Plant Hire Branch in Devon. This is a rare opportunity that doesn’t come up often! Grab the chance now and apply to work for a business that has been trading for 50 years and has now been Employee owned for 10 years!
What would my Key Accountabilities be?
- As the Depot Manager you will ensure that all operational work is carried out within agreed budgets and timescales in accordance with Company standards and ensure the Company’s reputation is maintained through adherence to Quality and Customer Care procedures.
- The Depot Manager will oversee management of all depot based Operational staff requirements – including, but not limited to: motivation, communications, training, and appraisals, individual development, recruitment, attendance and conduct and ensure company procedures and guidelines are followed and adhered to.
- Work with and under the direction of the Transport Department to ensure that the Company’s transport policies and Vehicle Standard Operating Procedures are adhered to and oversee the local depot transport operation to ensure compliance with these policies and procedures.
- Maintain an atmosphere of teamwork through positive leadership and clear communication of local strategy, goals and performance expectations.
- Deliver depot performance to a predetermined minimum turnover and net margin target.
- Prepare regular progress reports and attend meetings to discuss same.
- Monitor workforce productivity and make improvements or take corrective action as required and assist with the development and management of any incentive schemes.
- Ensure that all costs are kept controlled and are accounted for in an accurate and timely manner.
- Maintain and enhance good working relationships with existing customers and actively seek new business leads for our sales team where appropriate, including regularly using and updating the Depot Social Media platforms, with assistance from our Marketing Department.
- Raise customer awareness and the profile of our Company, by developing professional relationships with small/medium construction companies, as well as large national contractors.
- Develop relationships with potential new customers and promote the company’s quality of plant and service standards.
- Inform Regional Sales Managers of potential new customers – including “out of area” ones.
- Ensure security and accountability of hire fleet and the Depot – and maintain Site Key Holder responsibilities.
- Dress smartly at all times (branded clothing and PPE provided).
- Promote and organise cross hires from other suppliers for customers, when required.
- Identify reasons for lost hires (e.g. lack of equipment, transport, service).
- Hold monthly communication meetings with all staff and record attendance and findings.
- Ensure customer invoice queries are dealt with promptly and accurately, keeping the Company’s Credit Control Department informed.

- Ensure that the Company’s transport policies, processes and our safe systems of work are followed by all members of your team.

Health and Safety: All employees must be aware of the responsibilities placed upon them under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, to ensure that the agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for all employees and visitors.
