EAC Fire & Security was recently engaged to take over, recommission, and fully service an intruder alarm system at a residential property in Christchurch . The existing system had been deactivated and the owner wanted it brought back into full operational condition.

Scope of Work & Actions Taken

When we arrived, the following issues were noted:

  • The alarm had been turned off / disabled
  • The backup battery was extremely old (about 22 years)
  • The external bell (siren) was faulty
  • Access codes and user configuration were outdated
  • No recent system testing or walk test had been done

Our team carried out the following steps:

  • Power & Panel Reactivation
Enabled the control panel, cleared old fault states, and brought the system back online.
  • Code Reset & Access Configuration
Reset master, user, and installer codes to ensure full system access and security.
  • Battery Replacement
Removed the aged battery and replaced with a new, correctly rated sealed battery to ensure system reliability in mains-loss conditions.
  • Bell / Siren Replacement
Fitted a new external bell/siren, properly connected and tested for sound output.
  • Complete Walk Test
Triggered all sensors and detectors zone by zone to confirm correct detection, triggering, and reset behavior.
  • Part‑Set / Partial Mode Programming
Configured a part‑set mode (e.g. “night mode”) so that the system can be partially armed while permitting movement in certain areas.
  • System Health Verification
Checked tamper, sabotage, wiring integrity, and verified overall system status was healthy (no faults or alarms).
  • The intruder system is now fully functioning and secure
  • Correct power and battery backup restored system reliability
  • The external bell/callout system is working as designed
  • Owners now have new secure access codes
  • Part‑set functionality gives flexible use (e.g. night mode)
  • Peace of mind restored that the system is ready for everyday use
