Door Entry Power Supply Replacement in Ashley Road, Poole
Failed PSU Replaced to Restore Entry System
EAC Fire & Security recently responded to a fault reported at a block of flats on Ashley Road, Poole. The property’s door entry system had completely lost power, leaving residents without reliable access control.
Fault Diagnosis and Inspection
Upon arrival, our engineer carried out a full inspection of the entry panel, power supply unit (PSU), and internal cabling. The investigation quickly revealed that the original Videx ART.520M power supply had failed and was showing clear signs of overheating and internal damage.
Photos show the burn marks and discolouration on the old PSU casing — indicating a total failure of the transformer.
Power Supply Replacement
To restore functionality safely and promptly, we:
- Removed the failed Videx ART.520M PSU
- Supplied and installed a new ART.520M unit
- Re-tested cabling for continuity and safety
- Verified full system function from panel to handsets
Once installed, the system powered up immediately, and residents were able to use the intercom and entry release again without disruption.
Why PSU Failure Happens
Power supply units are often overlooked during regular servicing, but they’re essential to door entry reliability. Common causes of failure include:
- Age-related degradation
- Electrical surges
- Overheating due to lack of ventilation
- Loose wiring or poor installation
Routine maintenance and prompt replacement are crucial to avoid access issues.
We’ve included images of the burnt PSU, internal wiring, and the replacement in situ to show the upgrade. Burn damage was clearly visible — replacing it was a necessary safety precaution.
