Our award-winning Codemasters studio is looking for a Rendering Engineer to join the F1 team. Working in a passionate close-knit team with other engineers, designers and content creators, we’ll make sure your voice doesn’t get lost in the crowd. You’ll be part of a team delivering ‘AAA’ racing games within a studio that will value and recognize your contributions. You will help to re-invent and shape Codemasters’ boldest F1 racing title ever, from its creation to a genre-defining experience.
Our Rendering Engineers help bring the game’s visually rich real-world characters and environments to life. They are responsible for all technical aspects of the visual appearance of the game. The focus is on delivering the vision of the art and design teams to create remarkable, realistic, and emotionally engaging characters that enhance the player’s connection to the game.
Responsibilities
- Take an active part in developing technical designs and implementations for multiple large rendering systems and features with a focus on in-game character development
- Research and evaluate emerging rendering technologies and techniques to keep the game at the cutting edge of visual fidelity
- Implement high quality code in a large codebase, within a cross discipline agile team and maintain and extend existing code in rendering areas, collaborating with other engine and feature teams as needed
- Help to maintain high code standards across the engine development team
- Work with the engineering, art and production teams to evaluate the technical feasibility of rendering systems, proactively contribute to and evaluate technical documentation and help define and manage scope
- Test and refine systems and proactively support the automation of rendering feature testing across the team
- Work with, support and advise engineers in other disciplines with the rendering systems you work on
- Provide and review estimates for system development and report these to the team
- Help to identify technical debt in multiple areas of the rendering and engine code and contribute to paying it off over the course of development
- Help to identify dependencies between engine systems and requirements from feature teams to support development
Qualifications And Skills
- Expert C++ knowledge (ideally 4+ years).
- Use of modern 3D graphics APIs on PC and console games (e.g. Direct 3D 12).
- Experience writing shaders (HLSL/CG etc.) and GPU programming skills
- Advanced 3D geometry, pure & applied maths
- Advanced character rendering techniques
- Parallel programming
- Advanced lighting, data streaming and LOD techniques
- Modern ray tracing APIs and techniques
- Expert use of debugging and profiling tools
Bonus Qualifications And Skills
- Data driven, data oriented and object-oriented design
- A degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Maths/Physics/CS/Game Tech), or comparable relevant experience
- Ideally, at least 2 shipped, full-lifecycle game titles in a rendering related role
- A collaborative approach to problem solving
- A passion for learning and helping others to learn
