What We're Looking For:
The Fire Engineer is responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance, testing, and repair of a wide range of fire protection and life safety systems. This includes fire detection and alarm systems, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, and associated fire safety equipment. The role ensures all systems remain fully operational, compliant with relevant legislation and standards, and meet client and regulatory requirements across various building types.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Fire Alarm Systems
- Service, maintain, fault-find, and repair fire alarm systems (addressable and conventional).
- Carry out installation, commissioning, and system upgrades.
- Test detectors, sounders, panels, interfaces, and cause-and-effect programming.
- Emergency Lighting
- Inspect, test, and maintain emergency lighting systems in line with BS 5266.
- Carry out duration testing, fault diagnosis, and lamp/battery replacements.
- Complete reports and certification following inspections.
- Identify non-compliant installations and recommend remedial works.
- Fire Extinguishers & Portable Equipment
- Inspect, service, and maintain fire extinguishers in accordance with BS 5306.
- Replace, refill, and correctly tag extinguishers as required.
- Ensure correct extinguisher types are installed in appropriate locations.
- Conduct fire extinguisher surveys and compliance checks.
- Additional Fire & Life Safety Systems
- Test and maintain smoke control systems, AOVs, and fire dampers where required.
- Support maintenance of dry risers, hose reels, and suppression systems (where competent).
- Interface fire systems with access control, door release, and building management systems.
- Assist with fire risk assessment remedial actions when required.
- General Duties
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive call-outs.
- Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs in a timely manner.
- Complete detailed service reports, certification, and compliance documentation.
- Liaise professionally with clients, site managers, and contractors.
- Ensure all work is completed in line with company procedures and health & safety regulations.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle to a high standard.
- Identify system deficiencies and recommend improvements or upgrades.
