We are seeking an Interim Procurement Manager to establish procurement governance appropriate for a scaling deep-tech business, and ensure the purchasing function is audit-ready. The role will work closely with the leadership team across the business. Our client is a fast-growing Cambridge-based deep-tech company. Having recently completed a funding round, the company is scaling its research, engineering, and commercial operations rapidly.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft and implement a formal Procurement Policy covering purchase order requirements, delegated authority limits, supplier onboarding, and conflict of interest.
  • Develop a Delegated Authority Matrix in consultation with the CFO, defining approval thresholds by value and category.
  • Establish a supplier onboarding process including bank detail verification procedures to mitigate payment fraud risk.
  • Create and maintain a preferred supplier and contract register, capturing key terms, renewal dates, and commercial contacts for all active suppliers.
  • Implement a gifts and hospitality register as part of the company's broader fraud awareness framework.
  • Map the current end-to-end purchase-to-pay process and identify control gaps.
  • Establish a formal contract management process for all significant supplier agreements.
  • Create a software and subscription licence schedule capturing all active licences, costs, terms, renewal dates, and business justification.

Opportunity and Requirements:

We are looking for an experienced Procurement professional, ideally someone with experience of operating in a scaling business who is either looking to work part time or is a fractional procurement manager. £500 - £600 per day.
