Are you a Senior or Lead Engineer ready to step into a broader leadership role?
We’re working with a lean, well-funded security software company near Reading that’s hiring an Engineering Lead to take ownership of their cloud-native product. Their platform is used by enterprise clients to monitor internal activity, support compliance, and protect sensitive data.
You’ll lead a small team, shape the technical roadmap, and play a pivotal role in evolving a product that’s critical to their long-term growth.
The Role
You’ll be:
- Leading and mentoring a small, cross-functional engineering team
- Driving architectural decisions across a modern cloud-native platform
- Working closely with the CEO and senior stakeholders on product and technical strategy
- Balancing leadership with hands-on involvement in code, infrastructure, and process
- Supporting cloud infrastructure (GCP) and playing a key role in scaling and evolving the platform
- Supporting customer deployments and providing technical input on client issues
- Collaborating with QA, IT, and security teams to ensure quality and compliance
Key Skills
- 8+ years\’ experience in software development, primarily across cloud-native platforms
- Strong commercial experience with Golang and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Proven experience leading engineering teams and providing hands-on technical guidance
- Comfortable working with senior stakeholders and engaging in customer-facing discussions
- Excellent communication skills, proactive mindset, and a collaborative approach to delivery
Experience with any of the following is a bonus:
- Modern front-end frameworks such as Vue.js (or similar)
- DevOps & Infrastructure: GitHub Actions, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, containerisation
- Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Ansible
- Familiarity with C# (.NET) and Java (Android) environments
- Exposure to Python and Pandas
- Interest or experience in applying AI tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, LLMs) in engineering workflows
- Understanding of ISO 27001 standards and security-focused architecture
- Awareness of software engineering best practices, particularly in Go (e.g. idiomatic code, clean architecture, testing, and performance tuning)
- Working in start-up or scale-up environments, where adaptability and ownership are key
- Experience working in security, compliance, or regulated industries
