A well-established and growing building services consultancy is looking to appoint an Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer to join their expanding project delivery team. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys a mix of hands-on design, site involvement, and project responsibility, and who is keen to develop toward Chartered status within a supportive, technically strong environment. You’ll work on a varied portfolio of new build and refurbishment schemes, primarily within the education and healthcare sectors, delivering practical, compliant, and well-coordinated electrical building services designs from concept through to completion.

The Role

You’ll support senior engineers while taking ownership of your own packages, contributing across both design and project delivery. Responsibilities include:

  • Electrical design for building services projects
  • Preparing specifications, schedules, drawings, and technical documentation
  • Carrying out site surveys, condition surveys, and reporting
  • Electrical load assessments and cable calculations
  • Lighting design and calculations
  • Supporting tender documentation and statutory approvals
  • Attending site meetings, inspections, and progress reviews
  • Assisting with contract administration and project management duties
  • Liaising with contractors, stakeholders, and statutory bodies (including DNOs)

Projects typically involve systems such as:

  • LV distribution, small power & lighting
  • Fire alarms & life safety systems
  • Data, CCTV & access control
  • Renewable and low-carbon technologies (e.g. PV, heat pump–related systems)
  • General MEP coordination within public sector buildings

About You

We’re looking for someone who is technically capable, organised, and comfortable working both in the office and on site. You should have:

  • A degree (or working towards) in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
  • Experience within a consultancy or building services design environment
  • Good knowledge of UK building services standards and regulations
  • Experience with electrical design calculations and technical reporting
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with clients and contractors
  • A proactive attitude and desire to progress professionally
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to attend sites

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience in education or healthcare projects
  • Working towards IET, CIBSE, or similar professional membership
  • Familiarity with design software such as Dialux, Trimble (Amtech/ProDesign), AutoCAD or Revit

Why Apply?

  • Diverse, meaningful public-sector focused projects
  • Strong exposure to both design and delivery — not just desk-based work
  • Support toward Chartered Engineer progression
  • A collaborative, multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Genuine responsibility and career development as the business grows
