Overview
Sulzer Falkirk is a strategic investment site, built to be one of the most advanced rotating equipment service centres in the UK. The site hosts larger machines, heavier lifts and a 2 MW high‑voltage test bed that allows full load testing of motors and generators before they return to site.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
- Dismantling, rewinding, rebuilding and testing AC and DC motors, including traction motors
- LV motor rewinds and full electro‑mechanical overhauls
- Strip, clean and prepare stators and armatures for rewinding
- Manufacture and fit coils to original design – random wound and formed coils
- Dip, bake and varnish windings using dip tanks or VPI where required
- Carry out static electrical tests and record results
- Basic mechanical fitting on associated equipment like pumps and gearboxes
Qualifications:
- Time‑served winder, fitter or electrical machine repair background
- Solid experience stripping, rewinding, assembling and testing AC/DC motors
- Comfortable working in a mechanical/electrical workshop environment
- Ability to read drawings, follow procedures, and work methodically
- Commitment to quality and doing the job right the first time
- Formal qualifications are helpful, but hands‑on experience matters more
