Overview

Sulzer Falkirk is a strategic investment site, built to be one of the most advanced rotating equipment service centres in the UK. The site hosts larger machines, heavier lifts and a 2 MW high‑voltage test bed that allows full load testing of motors and generators before they return to site.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Dismantling, rewinding, rebuilding and testing AC and DC motors, including traction motors
  • LV motor rewinds and full electro‑mechanical overhauls
  • Strip, clean and prepare stators and armatures for rewinding
  • Manufacture and fit coils to original design – random wound and formed coils
  • Dip, bake and varnish windings using dip tanks or VPI where required
  • Carry out static electrical tests and record results
  • Basic mechanical fitting on associated equipment like pumps and gearboxes

Qualifications:

  • Time‑served winder, fitter or electrical machine repair background
  • Solid experience stripping, rewinding, assembling and testing AC/DC motors
  • Comfortable working in a mechanical/electrical workshop environment
  • Ability to read drawings, follow procedures, and work methodically
  • Commitment to quality and doing the job right the first time
  • Formal qualifications are helpful, but hands‑on experience matters more
