A leading upper-tier COMAH chemical manufacturer is seeking an EC&I Engineer to join their Manchester site on a permanent basis. This role offers a salary of £65,000-£70,000 per annum along with a competitive benefits package including a double-figure employer pension contribution, free on-site parking, company part-subsidised private healthcare, and excellent holiday allowance. This is a site-based role, working standard days, five days a week.

As an EC&I Engineer, you will provide expert Electrical, Control, and Instrumentation engineering support across plant operations, maintenance, and projects. You will be responsible for improving reliability, safety, and compliance of EC&I systems, delivering minor projects, troubleshooting complex systems, and supporting regulatory requirements on site.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the site's SME for EC&I matters, ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant operation of plant equipment.
  • Develop and maintain site standards (ATEX, DSEAR, SIL, functional safety) and technical documentation.
  • Lead or support projects from concept to commissioning, coordinating internal teams and contractors.
  • Provide guidance to maintenance teams on preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across PLCs, DCS, SIS, and field instrumentation.
  • Participate in COMAH audits, HAZOP/LOPA studies, and regulatory inspections.
  • Manage minor modifications and plant upgrades, ensuring long-term sustainability of site assets.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 5-10 years of experience in chemical, petrochemical, or similar high-hazard environments.
  • Strong knowledge of PLCs, DCS, functional safety (IEC 61508/61511), and electrical distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with COMAH, ATEX, DSEAR, and hazard assessment methodologies.
