Shift Pattern: Rotating Shifts

  • Early: 05:00 - 14:00
  • Late: 13:00 - 22:00
  • Night: 21:00 - 06:00

Job Purpose

The Multi-Skilled Engineer will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving manufacturing equipment within a high-volume sauce production facility. The role requires strong electrical and mechanical skills to ensure equipment reliability, food safety compliance, and minimal production downtime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance & Engineering
    • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production and packaging machinery
    • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime
    • Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults
    • Maintain and repair equipment including:
      • Mixing vessels and blenders
      • Pumps, fillers, cappers, and conveyors
      • Pasteurisers, cookers, and heat exchangers
      • Packaging and labelling machinery
  • Electrical & Controls
    • Fault-find on electrical systems (single and three-phase)
    • Work with PLCs (fault finding only unless otherwise specified)
    • Maintain sensors, motors, inverters, and control panels
    • Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards
  • Food Safety & Compliance
    • Work in accordance with BRCGS, HACCP, and GMP standards
    • Ensure all engineering work meets food safety and hygiene requirements
    • Complete accurate maintenance documentation and records
    • Support audits and inspections as required
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and efficiency
    • Support installation and commissioning of new machinery
    • Assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions
    • Contribute to continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives
  • Health & Safety
    • Comply with UK Health & Safety legislation
    • Follow lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures
    • Maintain a clean, safe working environment
    • Report hazards, near misses, and incidents promptly

Skills & Experience Required

  • Essential
    • Recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, BTEC or equivalent)
    • Proven experience as a Multi-Skilled Engineer in a food manufacturing environment
    • Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills
    • Experience with high-speed production and packaging machinery
    • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Willingness to work shifts and attend call-outs if required
  • Desirable
    • Experience in sauce, condiment, or liquid food manufacturing
    • PLC fault-finding experience (Siemens / Allen Bradley preferred)
    • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
    • Experience using CMMS systems
    • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience
