Trading since 1989, e.surv Chartered Surveyors is the UK's number one residential surveyor and the largest provider of property risk expertise and residential surveying services. We complete more than one property inspection every 12 seconds and employ over 600 surveyors from Lands End to John O'Groats and Northern Ireland. We are currently recruiting for a Head of Data Chartered Surveyors.
Role Purposes
As the Head of Data, you will lead the organisations data strategy, analytics capability and data governance framework, ensuring cohesive and business-aligned delivery across e.surv. You will shape a modern data environment by driving Data as a Service, maturing BI and analytics capability, and embedding a strong data culture.
This role requires a senior leader with deep experience in business intelligence, analytics transformation, data governance, operating model design and modern data platforms. You will work cross-functionally with technical, operational and executive teams to ensure data is trusted, accessible and effectively used to support organisational goals.
You will champion clear documentation standards, delivery pipelines and governance processes, enabling teams to deliver consistent, high-quality insight. This role is ideal for a strategic yet hands-on leader experienced in building and scaling high-performing data teams.
Role Duties
- Lead the design and delivery of the organisations data strategy, defining a clear roadmap for data, analytics, BI and governance maturity.
- Develop and embed Target Operating Models for analytics and Data as a Service.
- Drive continuous improvement in data processes, insight delivery and data literacy.
- Establish and enhance data governance, documentation standards and delivery pipelines.
- Oversee data quality processes, metadata standards and lineage documentation at a process level.
- Ensure a consistent enterprise approach to data definitions, ownership and stewardship.
- Own business demand management across the data function, ensuring clarity, prioritisation, and alignment with organisational priorities.
- Act as a strategic partner to finance, risk, operations, IT and product teams.
- Lead and mentor a multi-disciplinary team across data engineering, BI, analytics, reporting, and governance.
- Build a high-performing, collaborative team culture.
- Provide thought leadership on modern analytics platforms, cloud migration, and AI readiness.
- Oversee architectural evolution of data warehouse and BI platforms.
- Perform gap analysis to determine initiatives and build out road maps to address identified gaps.
- Ensure efficient and timely delivery of programmes.
- Identify and co-ordinate required resources for program execution and delivery.
- Responsible for management of third-party contracts and suppliers.
Knowledge and Experience
- Proven experience leading data capability, governance, BI and analytics functions at scale.
- Project management with experience in tools such as Azure DevOps or Jira & Confluence.
- Experience delivering Data as a Service and enterprise analytics strategies.
- Strong background in BI tooling, data warehouse development and cloud based modernisation.
- Demonstrated success in building and mentoring high-performing data teams.
- Experience establishing data governance processes and documentation standards.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- 5+ years of experience in and understanding of concepts and frameworks pertaining to Data Management.
