Role Overview

As a Controls Engineer, you'll play a key role in deploying utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across North America, supporting projects from initial design through commissioning and long-term operation. You'll work closely with internal engineering teams, equipment vendors, EPCs, utilities, project developers, and customers to ensure control systems are designed, integrated, and delivered successfully. From reviewing control philosophies and validating network architectures to troubleshooting communications and supporting commissioning activities, you'll help ensure every project performs safely, reliably, and efficiently.

What You'll Bring To The Position

  • Educational background in Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with industrial control systems within electrical generation, renewable energy, or similar power system environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with industrial communication protocols including Modbus, DNP3, and TCP/IP.
  • Strong understanding of industrial networking, including IP addressing, subnetting, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and network communications.
  • Experience with SCADA systems, plant control systems, or utility-scale automation.
  • Experience working with inverter-based resources (IBR) such as Battery Energy Storage Systems, solar, or other renewable generation technologies is considered an asset.
  • Exposure to substations, protective relays, and transformers is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to travel up to 10–15% nationally and internationally to support project sites and vendor facilities.
