The Lead Windows Engineer is responsible for driving the technical delivery, coordination, and governance of Windows engineering activities within the Digital Workplace environment. This role acts as a key interface between engineering teams, suppliers, and stakeholders, ensuring seamless build alignment, backlog execution, and lab environment stability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Co-ordination & Delivery Management
- Lead and manage coordination across engineering, suppliers, and stakeholders
- Breakdown high-level requirements into actionable development backlog items
- Assign and track development activities across teams
- Ensure all requirements are sufficiently detailed and technically actionable
- Monitor and report backlog status, risks, and delivery progress
- Coordinate end-to-end development and build activities across streams
- Ensure alignment of all builds with architectural and platform standards
- Act as the primary technical contact for suppliers and external partners
- Own technical delivery of core Windows builds and Wintel platform engineering
- Drive implementation of Standard Operating Environment (SOE) and endpoint strategies
- Ensure high-quality, secure, and scalable Windows build configurations
- Collaborate with architecture, product, and operations teams to ensure end-to-end delivery excellence
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to development teams
- Support continuous improvement and modernization initiatives
3. Development Environment / Lab Management
- Manage and maintain lab environments across Hardened Compute, Data Integration Platform, and Remote Backup
- User access management
- VM provisioning and lifecycle
- Patch management and compliance
- Ensure availability, stability, and security of lab platforms
- Act as the technical escalation point for
- Development teams
4. Supplier & External Interface
- Serve as technical point of contact for suppliers (e.g., Siemens, Capula)
- Manage supplier-delivered builds and integration activities
- Ensure supplier deliverables align with platform standards and timelines
- Facilitate technical discussions, issue resolution, and escalation management
5. Operations & Governance
- Ensure build governance, compliance, and quality standards
- Support incident resolution and escalations in Wintel platforms
- Maintain documentation:
- Build standards
- SOPs
- Lab environment processes
- Contribute to transition of solutions to operations using ITIL best practices
Technical Skills & Experience
- Strong expertise in:
- Active Directory & Group Policy
- SCCM / Intune / Endpoint Management
- Experience with:
- Lab / test environment setup and governance
- OS build engineering and deployment
- Patch management and security compliance
- Knowledge of:
- Azure / Cloud integration
- Automation (PowerShell preferred)
