Maintenance Assistant – Full Time, Permanent
Salary: £28,521 – £30,630 (Pay award pending)Hours: 36 hours per week (including weekend rota)Contract: Full Year (52 weeks), excluding Public HolidaysLocation: Sutton, South London
We are seeking a proactive and dependable Maintenance Assistant to join a friendly and professional site team at a busy and well-regarded educational establishment. This role is vital in supporting the day-to-day upkeep, safety and functionality of the school grounds and buildings.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be involved in a wide variety of tasks to keep the premises in excellent working order, including:
- Carrying out routine maintenance and minor repair works
- Ensuring site security and acting as a keyholder
- Setting up rooms and facilities for school events and external lettings
- Contributing to planned decorating and improvement projects
- Completing safety checks and maintaining compliance records
- Supporting weekend and evening lettings on a rota basis
This position operates on a rotating 4-week shift pattern, including early mornings, late evenings, and occasional weekend duties.
What We Are Looking For
- Practical maintenance or DIY experience (basic plumbing, decorating, repairs)
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Comfortable working as part of a small team
- Understanding of health and safety requirements in a facilities setting
- Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends, as part of a rota
Desirable
- Experience working within a school, college or similar setting
- D1 driving licence (or willingness to train)
- Familiarity with PAT testing, COSHH and H&S risk assessments
All staff are expected to uphold high professional standards, maintain boundaries with students and visitors, and contribute positively to the wider team.
