We are recruiting for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join a well-established organisation on a temporary basis for up to eight months. This is a home-based role offering flexibility and autonomy, however regular travel across the operating region is essential.
The successful candidate will support construction, maintenance and asset management activities, ensuring robust health and safety standards are maintained across both in-house teams and external contractors.
Operating Region: Hampshire, Wiltshire, Somerset, Dorset, Devon, Cornwall and London. Candidates must be based within or close to this region.
The Role
- Act as a subject matter expert, providing professional advice, guidance and support on all aspects of health, safety and welfare.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, particularly CDM Regulations 2015, within a maintenance and social housing environment.
- Conduct site inspections, audits and engage with operational teams.
- Key responsibilities will include:
- Advising managers and operational teams on health and safety compliance and best practice.
- Supporting in-house projects, responsive repairs teams and outsourced contractors.
- Reviewing and developing risk assessments and construction phase plans for high-risk activities.
- Conducting site inspections and audits across live construction and maintenance works.
- Investigating incidents and producing detailed reports with clear recommendations.
- Monitoring compliance and behavioural safety standards.
- Assisting with the development and continuous improvement of health and safety systems and policies.
- Delivering health and safety training where required.
- Liaising with external bodies including the Health and Safety Executive and insurers.
- Compiling accident statistics and management reports.
The role requires a practical, solutions-focused approach, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
About You
- NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum (NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent highly desirable).
- IOSH membership.
- Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015.
- Significant experience within construction, maintenance or social housing environments.
- Proven experience conducting risk assessments and site inspections in occupied premises.
- Experience of health and safety management systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong report writing skills and the ability to present clear recommendations.
- A methodical, analytical approach with excellent attention to detail.
You must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to your own vehicle for work purposes.
Additional Information
- Temporary contract up to 8 months.
- 37 hour week £250 per day plus holiday pay (PAYE).
- 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday + £30 holiday pay - rolled up to £280 a day.
- Business casual environment.
- Home based with regular regional travel.
