Senior Estimator
Here's what you'll be doing
Salary: £68,827-£82,182 + Company Car/allowance.
Location: Home based involving regular nationwide travel
Right now, we're looking for a Senior Estimator to join E.ON's Construction Division - a dynamic and rapidly growing part of our business driving Major Projects, B2B, District Heating Networks, and Solar & Battery energy solutions.
In this pivotal role, you'll lead the entire estimating process, from initial enquiry to final bid submission, overseeing tenders for a wide range of projects. You'll take ownership of developing and analysing detailed cost plans, conducting risk assessments, and reviewing engineering drawings to produce accurate and competitive proposals that support both profitability and strategic growth.
You'll supervise and develop a small team of estimators, collaborating closely with Sales, Design, Procurement, and Delivery teams to drive commercial success and continuous improvement in cost management.
Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for both establishing tenders and managing complex bids from initial enquiry, all the way through to the final submission to the client team.
  • Take-off and quantification of engineering / technical drawings prior to the generation of cost plans.
  • To drive Sales, Design, Project and Procurement team to structure and continually improve the commercial competitiveness of E.ON's position, whilst maintaining delivery quality and security of supply.
  • Continually push the boundaries of best practice whilst also promoting this ethos with stakeholders (both internal and external);
  • Assist with the validation of client team tender content, supporting Sales and Design / Engineering to develop viable solutions.
  • Identifying & reporting of risk and value-added opportunities whilst ensuring their consideration and / or mitigation are evident in E.ON's proposals.
  • Administration of tender adjudication process resulting in the generation of the base Cost Value Reports.
  • Provide technical and commercial support to the delivery team and to assist in the resolution of conflicts with suppliers and contractors should they arise.
  • Effectively build strong relationships with Commercial, Operational, Sales and support departments to identify opportunities to improve overall business profitability.

What we need from you
  • Demonstrable industry experience in an Estimator or Quantity Surveyor role within construction, major projects, energy, or district heating.
  • Knowledge of UK construction contracts, CDM regulations, HSSE and wider legislation.
  • Proven experience preparing detailed estimates and quotations for complex construction or energy projects.
  • Ability to review and interpret technical drawings (M&E and Civil Engineering) and quantify BOQs/QSORs across multiple trade scopes.
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills - experienced in engaging suppliers/subcontractors to secure favourable terms and leveraging procurement opportunities.
  • Confident in developing and analysing project costs from the ground up, applying recognised standards (such as New Rules Management) to deliver clear, accurate and consistent estimates.

It would be great if you had
  • Appropriate engineering or commercial qualification e.g. Degree / Diploma.
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial on-site generation technologies such as gas engines, steam boilers, absorption chillers, heat pumps, PV, batteries etc.
  • In depth knowledge of utility networks (both mechanical and electrical)
  • Working knowledge of planning tools and software and SAP.
  • Familiar with lean tools such as 8D and statistical analysis.
  • Leadership and coaching skills with the ability to motivate on an individual and a team level.
