Flexibility Trading Specialist
Here's what you'll be doing
Play a key role in powering a sustainable future.
This is an exciting opportunity to be at the heart of short-term trading, helping to unlock the full value of flexibility in energy markets. You'll work with a team that values innovation, creativity, and forward-thinking-and your input will help shape how we trade and optimise energy, supporting E.ON's wider net zero goals.
Short Term Trading is a vital part of our Trading & Origination function within E.ON Energy Markets. We operate in fast-paced environments to trade power and gas in short-term timeframes and maximise the flexibility across our portfolio-whether that's through E.ON-owned assets or customer partnerships.
Role will include:
- Trading flexibility in short-term wholesale energy markets to deliver commercial success.
- Designing and implementing strategies to manage a wide range of flexible and structured contracts-from customer-led Demand Side Response (DSR), to batteries and virtual assets.
- Building strong knowledge of flexibility markets as part of the Flexibility & Analysis team, within Short Term Trading.
- Helping to shape and evolve systems, tools, and processes that support flexibility trading.
- Sharing your expertise with teams such as Structured Trading and Flex Development to strengthen our collective capabilities.
- Supporting the development of operational solutions to monetise embedded flexibility, including customer and E.ON-owned technologies like battery storage and demand-side response.
- Ensuring flexibility can be commercially managed 24/7 through our intraday trading team. (Please note this role itself is not shift-based)
- Exploring and adopting innovative solutions (like algorithmic trading) to enhance our performance.
- Collaborating with European trading teams to build strong, effective cross-border relationships and exchange best practices.
What we need from you
- Strong numerical and analytical skills paired with commercial insight.
- A proactive, problem-solving mindset with a natural curiosity for improvement.
- Confidence using specialist IT systems and trading platforms.
- A deep understanding of commodity and flexibility markets and their drivers.
- The ability to clearly communicate complex ideas.
- A solid grasp of how the full front-to-back trading process works in a commodity business.
It would be great if you also have:
- Hands-on experience trading in short-term power markets.
- Familiarity with flexibility technologies (such as batteries, EV fleets, or demand-side response).
- Experience or understanding of structured contracts and how to optimise them
- Python skills for data analysis or automation.
We believe people thrive when they can bring their whole selves to work. Whether you're looking for a new challenge, returning to the energy sector, or exploring how your skills can support a sustainable future-we'd love to hear from you.
