Job Description
We're undertaking a fast paced data transformation into Databricks at E.ON Next using best practice data governance and architectural principles, and we are growing our data engineering capability within the Data Team. As part of our journey we're looking for a data architect to help bring our vision to life to design and review data models, iterate on data architecture, and ensure data is efficiently stored and managed within our enterprise data lakehouse.
Here's a taste of what you'll be doing

You will work with the various data team families in designing, reviewing, and approving or refining data models.

You will be involved with data modelling including conceptual, logical, and physical modelling where appropriate.

You will ensure data is efficiently managed, stored, and accessed in ways that support business requirements.

You'll need to look at the bigger picture through enterprise data modelling, planning ahead for the impact of data changes over time.

Design technical architecture solutions for machine learning and AI applications.

You will use design data models to ensure our data vision is achieved, ensuring that data is managed properly and meets the needs of our business requirements.

You will design efficient and scalable data pipelines in accordance with reviewed and approved data models. You will evolve and improve these pipelines as requirements change and as new technologies become available.

Improve data engineering practices and provide education on data modelling to colleagues.

You will build towards and maintain an enterprise data model within Databricks.

You will create and maintain documentation of data pipelines and associated systems, and adhere to the security and monitoring processes around data.

You will ensure data quality and reliability processes are effective and adhered to, ensuring trust in the data.
Are we the perfect match?

Minimum five years proven, hands-on experience as a Data Architect.

A strong understanding of SQL, database design, and data architecturing.
-
Knowledge and experience of Amazon Web Services is essential with a strong understanding of cloud based design particularly within AWS.

Be comfortable with taking ownership of complex data models within data engineering projects, and develop appropriate solutions in accordance with business requirements.

Hand-on experience with working with stakeholders and managing their requirements.

Actively coach and mentor others in the team and foster a culture of innovation and peer review within the team to ensure best practice.

A strong attention to detail and a curiosity about the data you will be working with.

A strong understanding of Linux based tooling and concepts.

Strong experience with Databricks and/or Spark.

Experienced with data governance, data cataloguing, data quality principles, and associated tools.

Understanding of data extraction, joining, and aggregation tasks, especially on big and real-time data i.e. Spark.

Understanding of data cleansing operations to prepare data for analysis, including transforming data into useful formats.

Able to explain data storage concepts and logical data structures i.e. data warehousing.

Able to make recommendations for data pipeline design based on business requirements.

Be open to new ways of working, and open to working with new technologies.

Be able to set your own goals and take the initiative when working.

Have a drive to troubleshoot and deconstruct problems, and build appropriate solutions.
