We are looking for a reliable and organised Stores Assistant to join our depot team in Oldham and Rochdale. This role is central to keeping depot operations running smoothly, supporting colleagues, and ensuring materials, equipment, and stock are managed safely and efficiently. The successful candidate will enjoy a hands-on role in a busy warehouse environment, contributing to safety, order, and the overall success of the depot team.
Key Responsibilities- Receiving and accepting incoming deliveries, checking items against delivery notes, and reporting any discrepancies or damage.
- Storing and organising stock in designated locations, maintaining safe and orderly storage areas, and supporting effective stock rotation and accessibility.
- Picking and issuing materials in line with authorised requests or job sheets, ensuring stock movements are recorded accurately.
- Supporting effective stock control by monitoring levels, identifying replenishment needs, and taking part in regular stock checks or inventories.
- Using warehouse equipment safely and correctly, following health and safety procedures, and helping to maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free environment.
- Communicating effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and delivery drivers, while completing paperwork, updating stock systems, and accurately logging transactions.
- Collecting, segregating, and safely handling recyclable materials, ensuring correct placement, monitoring container levels, arranging timely collections, and maintaining clean, organised, hazard-free waste areas.
- Recording waste movements and using warehouse equipment safely when moving full containers to designated collection points.
- Supporting fleet safety and operational readiness by carrying out regular transport audits, conducting scheduled vehicle start-ups, and ensuring compliance with maintenance and operational standards.
- Experience working in a warehouse, depot or stores environment with understanding of health & safety practices.
- IT skills, including using stock systems, email, MS Excel, SAP and handheld devices.
- Knowledge of stock control procedures such as booking in/out, labelling, and inventory processes.
- Ability to operate manual handling equipment (e.g., pallet trucks, sack trucks).
- Physical manual handling of materials, including lifting, carrying, and placing boxes e.g single bags of sand, tarmac, or other items as required.
- Strong communication skills for working with supervisors, drivers, and field staff.
- Forklift Truck Licence (Counterbalance or Reach).
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Experience handling PPE, materials or industrial stock.
- Experience working with delivery documentation (delivery notes, issue notes, stock transfers).
- Basic mechanical awareness for simple checks (e.g., daily forklift inspections).
- Knowledge of waste handling or recycling processes in a depot.
