The E.ON I&C Pillar combines the npower Business Solutions & E.ON B2B businesses to create a new £5billion revenue business serving c60,000 I&C customers and around 300,000 meter points, becoming the number one B2B energy supplier in the UK. Digital Technology & Change is a new function formed as part of the I&C business integration and consists of teams: Change Management; Innovation & Architecture; Digital Products; Engineering & Service Management. The Cloud / Platform Solution Engineer sits within Engineering & Service Management and will be part of a wider team of IT & Digital Engineers that design, build and manage IT solutions and products for npower Business Solutions (nBS) which is the Industrial and Commercial arm of E.ON UK. Working on a principally Azure based landscape and operating within E.ON's Group Digital Technology Framework, the Solution Engineer delivers across the lifecycle of IT & Digital Products that enable and support multiple business capabilities including sales, billing, metering, pricing and industry related processes. The role will practise and adopt Product and DevOps ways of working and will have a strong hands‑on technical understanding of several different cloud and digital enterprise level technologies, that can be compiled, installed, configured, integrated and securely operated to enable and support large scale, compliant and resilient, business operations. They will maintain relationships with key business and digital technology stakeholders locally and internationally across relevant E.ON teams and departments, and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the setup, configuration and management of Azure subscriptions and cloud environments.
- Build, configure and maintain cloud infrastructure to support I&C applications and services.
- Manage and support Azure API Management environments, policies, access and integrations.
- Work with engineering teams to ensure cloud environments are secure, compliant and aligned to agreed standards.
- Help define and maintain cloud platform guardrails, including subscription structures, landing zone principles, naming conventions, tagging standards, Azure Policies and access controls.
- Build specialist knowledge of E.ON Digital Technology cloud products, platform services and landing zone lifecycle processes, supporting the adoption, adaptation and operation of Group‑provided capabilities within the I&C environment.
- Support the development of reusable platform patterns and environment templates that enable engineering teams to provision cloud services in a consistent, secure and repeatable way.
- Support the creation and maintenance of development, test and production environments.
- Collaborate with internal teams to produce infrastructure and platform designs based on agreed architecture.
- Work with architecture, security and engineering teams to ensure new cloud environments follow agreed platform standards and are designed with scalability, security, resilience and operational support in mind.
- Support deployment pipelines and release activities.
- Identify improvements in reliability, scalability, performance and cost‑efficiency.
- Maintain documentation, guidance and standards for cloud consumption.
- Provide technical support and ensure platform stability.
- Strong stakeholder management skills across cross‑functional teams.
- Collaborate on infrastructure/platform designs aligned with architecture and security standards.
Qualifications
- Proven Cloud, Platform, Infrastructure or DevOps engineering experience.
- Strong Microsoft Azure cloud and infrastructure skills, including subscriptions, networking, identity and security.
- Experience supporting production cloud applications and API gateway technologies.
- Knowledge of infrastructure‑as‑code and automation tools.
- Ability to collaborate with technical teams, stakeholders and partners.
- Strong problem‑solving, communication and supplier management skills.
Desirable
- Azure DevOps, CI/CD, Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates.
- Azure monitoring tools and Microsoft security/compliance tooling.
- .NET and Microsoft technology stacks.
- Containerisation with Docker or Kubernetes.
- Enterprise architecture, platform standards and IT governance understanding.
