Your Role:

We're looking for a passionate and skilled Technical Development Technician to join our Product Assurance Team at our Wednesbury office on a permanent basis. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of our smart metering and energy solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with the Product Assurance Team to deliver across all areas, including testing, evaluating, and advising on new assets, firmware, and solutions.
  • Support the Smart Metering Project through smart product evaluation.
  • Evaluate electricity and gas metering products, PPMIDs, and communication hubs.
  • Develop Work Instructions and create tariff structures, field staff documentation, and customer read sheets.
  • Represent the Product Assurance Team in meetings with manufacturers.
  • Assist in training appropriate staff and liaise with meter manufacturers to understand product performance limits.
  • Ensure the highest safety and quality standards in all activities.
  • Communicate timely updates to end users and business leaders regarding defects and new requests.
  • Identify, log, and categorise defects, and work with manufacturers to resolve them.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Understanding of electronic product function testing and ability to follow test scripts.
  • Ability to assemble and test electronic equipment at circuit board level.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.

  • Strong organisational skills to handle multiple tasks within agreed timescales.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working safely with electricity.
  • Ability to assemble and test electronic equipment at circuit board level.
  • Experience with complex electronic devices.
  • In-depth understanding of SMETS, GBCS, Zigbee, and other communication technologies.
  • Software editing and development skills.
  • Experience with SQL and databases.
  • Proficiency in Python, HTML, C, C++, and LabVIEW.
