We are looking for a Quantitative Risk Intern to join our Energy Markets team in Solihull. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your Python and modelling skills in a real-world energy markets context, gaining hands-on exposure to one of the fastest-growing and most complex areas of risk in the UK energy sector.
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Lead the transition of our Contracts for Difference (CfD) hedge position model from Excel to Python.
- Translate complex inputs into clear, actionable hedge instructions.
- This migration will streamline updates, reduce errors on complex positions, and enable integration with weather risk models, Clean Power 2030 risk evaluations, and CfD derivative valuations.
- Explore one of the largest and fastest-growing risks for energy retailers.
- Learn how weather and CfD derivatives are used to protect both our customers and the E.ON business.
- Support discussions on CfD, evaluating how scheme nuances, market changes (including negative prices), and Clean Power 2030 uncertainties affect customer bills and hedge effectiveness.
- Build practical Python expertise while gaining a deeper understanding of energy markets and risk management.
What we need from you:
- Currently studying Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline.
- Interest in mathematical modelling and experience with Python (Power BI is a plus).
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of projects.
- Available to attend an interview in April 2026, if shortlisted.
- Available to undertake the internship from June 2026 to October 2026.
