At E.ON UK Green Funding Solutions, we partner with Local Authorities to deliver energy efficiency and renewable heating programmes that support the UK Government's 2050 net-zero carbon target. We’re looking for a Bid Lead to manage and mentor a team of Bid writers, overseeing the delivery of high-quality, client-focused bids across the full tender lifecycle — from Pre‑Qualification Questionnaires (PQQs) to Invitations to Tender (ITTs) and Requests for Proposal (RFPs).
You’ll lead the end‑to‑end bid process for local authority and government‑funded retrofit and low‑carbon domestic housing projects, identify open‑market opportunities and support direct award proposals in collaboration with our Business Development team and drive bidding strategy, improve win rates, and contribute to the success of both Green Funding Solutions and our wider Solutions division.
Main Responsibilities- Line manage, mentor and develop the bid team (including Bid Writers and a Bid Coordinator), coordinating day‑to‑day activity and capability development.
- Plan, prioritise and coordinate bid resources to support effective delivery in a competitive, evolving solutions market.
- Work collaboratively with Pre‑Contract Commercial, Contracts and the Operational teams to strengthen commercial tender responses and complete contract reviews within clarification windows, enabling effective negotiation.
- Lead and submit successful, commercially viable, fully costed proposals and responses to achieve targets.
- Conduct extensive client research and devise detailed capture plans highlighting win themes and bid team activity key to reach favourable outcome(s).
- In collaboration with the wider business, and within each bid, identify and maximise pan E.ON opportunities.
- Review initial tender documentation and recommend bid strategy for each opportunity to the Proposition Manager.
- Proactively identify and access bid databases/lists in order to secure Green Funding contracts and expand the scope of E.ON’s market involvement.
- Identify opportunities for other EIS pillar.
- Inform and consult with key internal functions to ensure all cross‑E.ON support and appreciation of implications of bid.
- Identify and recommend key process improvements to implement, increase opportunities and minimise risk.
- Input into weekly governance meetings taking actions to ensure the business can maximise value and minimise risk.
- Demonstrate experience of securing complex multi‑million contracts through structured tendering processes.
- Experience of managing, mentoring and developing individuals.
- Excellent skills in creative writing, with experience producing clear, compelling and well‑structured tender responses, and strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent personal organisation skills with the ability to manage conflicting tasks and challenging deadlines in a calm and methodical manner.
- Good project management skills, liaising with all internal teams (including Pre‑contract, delivery, operations and commercial) on tendering processes.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to be persuasive and influence situations, decisions and people.
- Highly competent Microsoft office user especially in Word and Excel.
- Foundation and Practitioner Association of Proposal Management (APMP/Shipley) qualifications.
- Good commercial acumen and able to understand where E.ON can add value to schemes over and above the delivery requirements.
- Understanding of contractual terms and conditions and able to advise on their impact to the team.
- Enhanced conflict resolution skills covering internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to motivate, monitor and encourage direct reports.
- Ensure proposal documents follow standard formatting and quality standards and adhere to E.ON governance.
- Demonstrate understanding of the key benefits of energy saving measures to promote these within the tender.
