Matrons play a key role in assisting the House Master in creating a happy and well‐ordered atmosphere throughout the House. The Matron has responsibilities for the boys' pastoral and health care as well as dress and hygiene standards. The Matron also manages on‐site housekeeping, managing the work of a team of cleaners. This role would suit a candidate who has experience of working with young people. We are looking for a highly organised and caring individual who possesses common sense, resilience, flexibility and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people. The role involves accompanying boys on hospital visits, so applicants must have a full driving licence and their own car.

The environment

Harrow School is situated in Harrow on the Hill, north‐west London and is one of the best‐known schools in the world. Around 840 boys study at Harrow and live in the school's 12 boarding houses. Employees particularly value the school's beautiful green estate, the positive working environment and good relationships with their colleagues.

Applications will be processed as they are received, so early application is recommended.

Equality, diversity and inclusion statement

Equality, diversity and inclusion are values that are important to us at Harrow. We believe in diversity of thought and actively welcome everyone regardless of their background to bring their valuable and relevant skills to our community.

Safeguarding and child protection

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All successful applicants must be willing to undergo enhanced child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with any past employer and the Disclosure and Barring Service, and it is an offence to apply for the role if the applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. No member of staff will be able to start until these checks are complete, and this process takes, on average, a month. Please plan accordingly.
