The role of Librarian is to inspire a love of reading and support student learning across the school. You will manage a vibrant, well-resourced library, work closely with teaching staff to provide high-quality resources, support the curriculum, and deliver engaging library sessions. The ideal candidate is highly organised, passionate about reading, and committed to a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop library resources by maintaining an up-to-date, relevant collection of books and digital materials to support the curriculum.
  • Promote literacy and reading by creating an engaging, welcoming library environment and encouraging students to become confident, independent readers.
  • Support teaching and learning by liaising with staff, recommending resources, and coordinating effective library lessons across subjects.
  • Oversee library systems and operations including cataloguing, booking systems, and ensuring safe and appropriate use of resources and technology.
  • Manage budget and partnerships by monitoring spending, sourcing value for money, and developing links with external organisations to enhance literacy initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Degree or relevant qualification.
  • Experience working in a library or educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of children’s or young adult literature.
  • Excellent organisational and ICT skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and promote a love of reading.

Salary and Benefits

  • SCP 12 – 16 £25,152.62 – £26,841.30 + Inner London Allowance £3,518.09
  • 37 hours a week, 39 weeks per year FTE: SCP 12 – 16 £28,598 – £30,518 + Inner London Allowance £4,000
  • 31 days of annual leave for year-round employees
  • Defined benefit pension schemes (LGPS or TPS)
