Dyson is a global technology company that transforms every category it enters with radical and iconic re-inventions. The Mechanical Systems Lead will support Dyson’s Estates strategy ensuring safe, efficient operation and optimal utilisation of mechanical systems within the UK estate.

About the Role

Responsible for providing technical support and executing Dyson’s Estates strategies to ensure safe and efficient functioning, and optimal utilisation of assigned systems within the UK estate.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist the Department Head in planning, coordinating, and implementing defined mechanical system maintenance of facilities.
  • Act as subject‑matter expert in mechanical systems.
  • Participate as a stakeholder in the technical review for any mechanical system installation and provide feedback to ensure sustainable operation.
  • Ensure all work is compliant with safe work procedures, risk assessments and site safety protocols.
  • Respond to and troubleshoot mechanical system interruptions, providing root‑cause analysis, corrective and preventive action.
  • Manage tasks through the CAFM system with clear, concise and regular updates to end users.
  • Create and review operating procedures and risk assessments.
  • Participate in hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control of mechanical systems.
  • Perform FMEAs to eliminate single points of failure and mitigate supply‑interruption risk.
  • Establish monitoring, measurement and analysis systems to evaluate performance against KPIs and recommend improvements.
  • Lead or support critical works such as shutdown maintenance on power distribution or critical mechanical assets.
  • Implement, review and improve maintenance programmes (preventive and corrective) to maximise uptime and reliability.
  • Maintain system records (design, drawings, commissioning reports, manuals) and coordinate with the Building & Compliance Manager.
  • Investigate deviations from operating baseline, document findings and execute corrective action.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance records for traceability and rapid defect rectification.
  • Digitise operation and maintenance workflows, analyse data to identify efficiency gains.
  • Track consumption, capacity and trigger system reviews for upgrades.
  • Provide detailed design and technical support for potential new technology implementation.
  • Review change management for new processes, ensuring hazard mitigation and regulatory compliance.
  • Support the EHS team during internal, external and regulatory audits.
  • Collaborate with the Building & Compliance Manager to achieve 100% compliance across defined systems.
  • Lead the UK Energy Efficiency Programme for defined mechanical systems.
  • Articulate critical assets and link to overall maintenance strategy.
  • Own the operational risk register, risk tolerance and link spending and budgets to risk.
  • Oversee forward maintenance strategy and PPM schedules.
  • Own building intelligence systems – BMS, BIM, CAFM, CAR and document management.
  • Develop monitoring protocols for real‑time health and performance of building systems.
  • Identify, evaluate and implement state‑of‑the‑art technologies for HVAC, lighting, security, energy management and occupancy sensors.
  • Own and develop Dyson’s BMS.
  • Collaborate with Facilities teams to reduce energy consumption and strengthen sustainability initiatives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers to drive collaboration and value.
  • Assess feasibility and benefits of innovative solutions for continuous improvement.
  • Oversee IFM contractor: monitor progress, ensure adherence to timelines and budgets, address issues, verify quality and protect final product specifications.
  • Manage risk of IFM contract through mitigation strategies and ongoing monitoring.
  • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities with the contractor.
  • Review and manage IFM contracts ensuring compliance with terms and conditions.

About You

  • NVQ Level 4 or related mechanical specialism.
  • Experience managing maintenance of complex building systems (e.g., BMS, smart lighting, HV/LV, UPS).
  • Experience in supply‑chain and contract management, setting and monitoring KPIs.
  • Experience managing health & safety in a maintenance environment; IOSH or NEBOSH desirable.
  • Experience conducting safety audits, risk assessments and permitting processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to communicate technical information clearly and build effective stakeholder relationships.
