At Dynamism.io, we’ve partnered with the founding team at an Anti-Fraud Fintech startup to find talented Founding Senior Backend Engineers who are excited about building next-generation payments infrastructure. If you’re passionate about designing scalable systems that help eliminate financial scams and want to be part of a small, dynamic team, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
About the Company:
This Anti-Fraud Fintech, founded in 2023, is on a mission to rid the world of scams. In the UK alone, consumers report over 200,000 scams per year—and that’s likely just the tip of the iceberg. They’re tackling the problem head-on by building next-generation payments infrastructure that provides deep insight and real-time control over every transaction.
Through cutting-edge payment intelligence and governance for real-time payments, they’re partnering with some of the largest UK financial institutions to set a new standard for security, privacy, and uptime in financial services.
Backed by Europe’s leading seed investor, sharing investors with Monzo, Wise, and Tessian, this company is well-positioned to redefine the financial security landscape. As a founding engineer, you’ll have the unique opportunity to shape the architecture, technology stack, and engineering culture from the ground up. Onsite collaboration is highly valued, with at least three days a week in the London (Farringdon) office.
Role Overview & Responsibilities:
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design and implement backend systems that form the backbone of the platform. Working with modern backend languages and cloud-based infrastructures, you’ll ensure the platform is fault-tolerant, secure, and capable of processing large-scale data in real-time. Key responsibilities include:
- Architecting and developing robust, well-tested, fault-tolerant backend services that integrate seamlessly with customers’ systems.
- Creating intuitive, scalable APIs to support smooth integration with financial institutions, third-party services, and diverse data sources.
- Championing best practices for security, sensitive data handling, and privacy-preserving infrastructures.
- Working with cloud technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform) and providers (AWS, GCP) to maintain high availability and security.
- Diving into any part of the stack—front-end, data engineering, infrastructure—as needed to keep the product and team moving forward.
- Making critical early technical decisions, from frameworks and tooling to architectural standards, laying the groundwork for long-term success.
- Reviewing code, mentoring junior engineers, and incorporating emerging best practices and genAI tools to enhance efficiency and maintain high-quality standards.
Core Requirements:
- ~7+ years of experience building and maintaining large-scale, distributed backend systems, ideally in environments handling sensitive data and requiring 24/7 uptime.
- Proficiency in modern backend languages (e.g., Java, Scala, Go, Python, Rust) and willingness to quickly adopt new tools and technologies.
- Deep understanding of load balancers, databases, caching, HTTP, APIs, data pipelines, and fault-tolerant architectures.
- Experience working with sensitive data and a solid grasp of privacy regulations.
- Demonstrated success in fast-paced, early-stage environments—knowing how to balance speed and precision.
- Prior experience in fintech, banking, or related domains is a plus, but not mandatory.
Operating philosophy
- Embrace a “Yes, and” mindset, fostering creativity and constructive problem-solving.
- Value change and speed, focusing on outcomes and efficiency rather than just effort.
- Communicate openly and honestly, whether with teammates, customers, or stakeholders.
- Think long-term, making sustainable and ethical decisions that last.
- Maintain a playful spirit—taking the mission seriously but not taking ourselves too seriously.
Why Join?
- Your work will directly combat financial fraud, making a meaningful difference for consumers.
- As a founding engineer, you’ll shape the technical trajectory and internal culture from the ground up.
- Enjoy a tight-knit, collaborative team environment that sparks innovation and personal growth.
- Tackle complex, cutting-edge challenges across fintech, data engineering, and infrastructure, expanding your professional toolkit.
Interview Process:
We are seeking to make our interview as experiential as possible, ensuring both sides gain meaningful insight into what it would be like to work together.
- Initial Screen with Dynamism (30 mins): Discuss your motivations, career goals, and initial fit.
- Engineering Lead Meet-and-Greet (45 mins): An introductory call to get to know each other and do some open-ended problem-solving together.
- “On-site” (3 hours, can be done remotely): Deep-dive interviews with the Engineering Lead on algorithms, systems design, and architecture (we’ll provide materials in advance). Plus, meet the co-founders to understand the team and business better—this is as much for you as it is for us!
- References and Offer: Ideally over dinner!
