Scientific Director – Medical Communications

Position: Scientific Director
Location: London (hybrid)

Role & Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the finished quality of all editorial outputs, achieving writing excellence across therapy areas and the communication mix and target audiences.
  • Oversee editorial input on project development, ensuring the scientific and strategic accuracy of the content, in addition to alignment with the project brief, client and author feedback.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of a product strategy and therapy area to ensure communication objectives are met on assigned projects.
  • Lead, supervise and line-manage members of the editorial team, ensuring all projects are delivered on time, within budget and to a high standard of quality.
  • Oversee other line managers within the assigned team, offering advice and support as necessary.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with clients to develop advocacy and facilitate the resolution of difficult issues.
  • Liaise confidently with clients and key external experts, inspiring confidence as a medical communications expert/advisor/partner to establish, develop and maintain strong relationships and advocacy.
  • Work in partnership with clients on the direction of both individual projects and the wider account.
  • Confidently provide strategic guidance and direction on the development and creation of materials within client meetings.
  • Keep up to date with industry codes of practice/legislation and external issues or events that may affect existing accounts.
  • Continually assess resource requirements in assigned accounts based on financial forecast and account plans, in conjunction with account services lead – advise agency leads on recruitment needs as appropriate.
  • Lead the scientific development of business proposals and pitch presentations.
  • Proactively identify possible new business opportunities within assigned accounts.
  • Contribute to and attend new business pitches.

Requirements

  • Degree (science, preferably life science); PhD or MSc (desirable)
  • Scientific knowledge and understanding
  • High level of drive, motivation, and initiative
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Awareness of industry guidelines and best practice and their application
  • Significant experience working in Medical Communications (agency)
