Role & Responsibilities:
- Be an active member of the leadership team and contribute to the company strategy in line with the vision and objectives.
- Collaborate with the agency's client services lead to take full responsibility and accountability for the agency, ensuring the seamless execution of strategic and tactical initiatives to the highest standards.
- Lead scientific strategy calls and meetings with clients.
- Take responsibility for leading scientific strategy development with new clients, aiding with the identification of their business needs and communications requirements.
- Provide scientific counsel on accounts, challenging and supporting their scientific strategy and acting as a source of advice for members of the team across all departments.
- Develop an in-depth understanding of assigned products, related medical areas, and competitors.
- Engage and educate the team on how a clear scientific strategy can enhance the quality of delivery to clients.
- Implement and monitor team processes that ensure the production of high-quality outputs that are on brief and meet client expectations.
- Maintain a fully resourced medical writing team and provide input on recruitment decisions that will drive and support the growth of our business opportunities.
- Manage and oversee the work of junior members of the team and work with the leadership team to develop performance plans for the team.
- Work collaboratively with the commercial team to provide strategic scientific support for the development of proposals/pitches and participate in new business pitch presentations.
- Proactively identify new business opportunities by researching therapy area developments and product pipelines.
Requirements:
- Degree (science, preferably life science); PhD or MSc (highly desirable).
- Experience leading high-performing teams and proven leadership and influencing skills in a commercial environment.
- Experience and aptitude in strategic planning, developing and presenting new business proposals/pitches and nurturing the talent of less experienced team members.
- Extensive medical writing experience in a medical communications agency across a broad range of projects and therapeutic areas.
- Strong commercial acumen in the financial management of a medical communications business.
- Commercially savvy - skilled at advising the client service team on SOWs and budgets while driving organic growth by winning new business with existing clients.
- Can-do attitude and willing to pitch in where needed.
- Several years’ experience as a Scientific Team Lead or Scientific Director in a medical communications agency.
