Medical Writer
The Opportunity -
Ready to take more ownership of your writing and broaden what you can do? Join an independent medical communications agency where you can turn complex science into content that informs healthcare professionals and patients. You will contribute to global client programmes, develop your scientific judgement and take increasing responsibility for delivering work you can be proud of.
Why This Role Stands Out -
Expand your range across scientific narratives, internal training, advisory boards, symposia, educational pieces and congress materials. You will also develop patient and HCP facing clinical trial and disease awareness video content, treatment landscape and horizon scanning decks, and strategic documents. This variety brings the opportunity to deepen your therapy area knowledge, strengthen client relationships and build the independence needed for a senior writing role.
Role & Responsibilities -
Develop Scientific Content
- Research and write scientific narratives, internal training, educational pieces, congress materials, and content for advisory boards and symposia.
- Develop clinical trial and disease awareness video scripts for patients and healthcare professionals (HCPs), and contribute to treatment landscape decks, horizon scanning and strategic documents.
- Translate complex evidence into clear, audience-appropriate copy, maintaining accuracy in language, data and referencing.
Build Client and Therapy Area Knowledge
- Develop a strong understanding of therapy areas, client strategy, audiences and key messages.
- Contribute to client and expert discussions, building confidence as a scientific contact on assigned work streams.
Own Your Delivery
- Manage smaller projects or defined work streams with increasing independence, working to agreed briefs and timelines.
- Collaborate with client services, design and digital colleagues, and flag capacity or delivery risks early.
Maintain Quality and Grow
- Review your work against the brief and style guidance, incorporate stakeholder feedback and proof materials before production.
- Follow agency procedures and applicable industry guidelines; contribute to proposals and actively apply feedback from senior writers.
Perks and Career Development -
- Competitive salary reflecting your experience, with the potential for an annual bonus linked to company and individual performance.
- Editorial feedback and collaboration with senior colleagues to strengthen your writing and scientific judgement.
- Increasing ownership of projects and opportunities to build your confidence in client and expert discussions.
- Varied work across medical education, scientific strategy and audience-focused content, with meeting and congress exposure as projects require.
- Experience that supports progression towards Senior Medical Writer, including independent delivery, broader project responsibility and stronger client relationships.
Requirements -
- A degree in medicine or a biomedical science; a PhD or other relevant postgraduate qualification would be advantageous.
- At least two years of medical communications or medical education agency experience, ideally spanning writing and editorial work.
- A track record of producing accurate scientific content across different formats and audiences.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working with clients and colleagues.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to organise competing deadlines.
- Familiarity with industry compliance requirements, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint; referencing software and compliance platform experience would be advantageous.
