Dynamic Screening Systems Ltd design and manufacture screening machines in Pettigo, Co. Donegal, approx. 30 minutes drive from Omagh, and Enniskillen. Our growing manufacturing department is seeking an Operations Manager who will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the manufacturing business, ensuring that production, purchasing, projects and supporting departments work together effectively. The role requires strong leadership, commercial awareness and the ability to coordinate people, resources and priorities within a busy manufacturing environment. The Operations Manager will work closely with senior management to improve performance, resolve operational issues and support the company’s wider objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Management
    • Oversee daily manufacturing and operational activities.
    • Coordinate production, purchasing, project delivery and supporting functions.
    • Ensure departments are working towards agreed priorities and deadlines.
    • Identify operational bottlenecks and implement practical solutions.
    • Ensure suitable staffing, equipment and materials are available.
    • Support the introduction of improved systems and working practices.
  • Production and Purchasing
    • Work with production teams to ensure manufacturing schedules are achieved.
    • Monitor productivity, quality, downtime and resource requirements.
    • Address delays, material shortages and issues affecting delivery.
    • Oversee purchasing activities and ensure materials are available when required.
    • Monitor supplier performance, pricing, quality and lead times.
    • Support supplier negotiations, stock management and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Project Management
    • Coordinate operational and cross-functional projects from planning through to completion.
    • Establish project timelines, responsibilities, budgets and deliverables.
    • Monitor progress and address delays, risks or resource constraints.
    • Maintain clear communication between departments, suppliers and stakeholders.
    • Provide regular project updates to senior management.
  • People Management
    • Lead and support departmental managers, supervisors and team leaders.
    • Set clear expectations and promote accountability across the operations function.
    • Support workforce planning, recruitment, training and employee development.
    • Address performance or operational concerns in conjunction with HR.
    • Encourage effective communication and cooperation between departments.
  • Performance and Reporting
    • Monitor operational performance across production, purchasing and project delivery.
    • Prepare regular reports for senior management on performance, costs, risks and priorities.
    • Use operational information to support decision-making and improvements.
    • Monitor departmental budgets and control operational expenditure.
    • Identify opportunities to increase productivity, reduce waste and improve profitability.
  • Quality, Health and Safety
    • Ensure operations comply with company quality standards and procedures.
    • Promote a strong health and safety culture throughout the workplace.
    • Address incidents, non-conformances and corrective actions with the relevant teams.
    • Ensure employees are appropriately trained and operational procedures are followed.
    • Support internal and external audits where required.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an operations management or senior manufacturing role.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing, production planning, purchasing and project management.
  • Experience managing teams and coordinating multiple departments.
  • Proven ability to improve operational efficiency and performance.
  • Experience using ERP, production-planning or business-management systems.
  • A relevant qualification in engineering, manufacturing, operations or business management is desirable.
  • Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement or project-management experience would be an advantage.
