Our client’s objective is to build the first commercially viable fusion power plant to ensure a sustainable and affordable energy supply across Europe. To support their mission and deliver on this objective, the business requires a Senior Plasma Physicist to take responsibility for the assessment and design of the pumping divertor including the heat flux, neutral pumping, and interface with the pumping system concept. Your primary responsibility as the Senior Divertor Physicist is to assess divertor designs achieving ≤ 10 MW/m2 heat loads, neutral compression, and suppression of Tungsten first wall impurities. To be considered for this role, candidates must be able to demonstrate proven experience in plasma edge physics, exhaust physics, and divertor physics. Assisting the Divisional Lead in defining a divertor concept which meets the pumping criterion of the reactor design Performing integrated modelling and design work for the conceptual and technical development of a fusion power plant Working within a team that will produce an integrated design of a fusion power plant Assessing contributions from external parties and collaborators Providing input for the Conceptual Design Review Your Skills & Qualifications: Ph.D. in physics, engineering or a related field Experience in divertor physics Experience with stellarator divertor tools (EMC3-EIRENE) Background in stellarator or tokamak plasma physics is preferred Competent user of programming languages such as Fortran, C, Python Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams Be passionate about fusion with the ability to think outside the box and constantly challenging existing approaches to high-risk transformational technologies.
