Job Summary

A skilled manufacturing technician responsible for the resistance welding of complex, high-value components and assemblies within an aerospace manufacturing environment. The role involves working with specialist materials including Stainless Steel, Titanium, Jethete and Nimonic, ensuring welding activities are completed in accordance with customer requirements, engineering specifications, weld data cards and applicable standards.

The role requires a high level of technical skill and experience in resistance welding, with the ability to work accurately to tight tolerances and quality requirements.

Responsibilities

Resistance Welding Operations

  • Review technical and capability requirements relating to product standards and customer requirements.
  • Assess materials to be welded, material specifications, weld joint properties, join location, weld sequencing, tacking requirements and accessibility for welding and inspection.
  • Consider and utilise appropriate jigging and tooling requirements for welding.
  • Carry out resistance welding activities in accordance with weld data cards, welding parameters, process work instructions and procedures.
  • Work to specified welding parameters and ensure processes are followed consistently.
  • Work with materials including Stainless Steel, Titanium, Jethete and Nimonic.
  • Carry out inspection of welded components and assemblies in accordance with the required criteria.
  • Ensure welding equipment, tooling and associated equipment are used correctly and maintained in a serviceable condition.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure weld quality and acceptance requirements are met in accordance with customer and internal standards.
  • Maintain accurate welder logs, welding records, certification records and control sheets.
  • Understand and apply relevant standards, procedures and customer requirements applicable to resistance welding processes.
  • Identify and report non-conforming product or process issues.
  • Support investigations and corrective actions relating to welding quality issues where required.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with applicable aerospace quality requirements.

Continuous Improvement & Teamwork

  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement activities relating to production and welding processes.
  • Support the achievement of departmental and business objectives.
  • Work effectively as part of the wider manufacturing team.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment in accordance with the Company’s 5S standards.

Required Skills and Competences

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in resistance welding within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience of resistance welding processes.
  • Experience of working with high-value materials and products.
  • Knowledge and experience of working to Rolls-Royce standards preferred.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical documentation and welding requirements.
  • Ability to inspect welded components and assemblies against specified criteria.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • Ability to work accurately to tight tolerances and quality requirements.
  • Ability to work to production schedules and time constraints within a manufacturing environment.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to identify and report quality or process issues promptly.

General:

  • Maintain good housekeeping practises in line with the Company 5s standards
  • Comply with all relevant internal rules, policy and procedures, including those related to Health and Safety, Data Protection and the issued Employee Handbook
  • Be expected to carry out any other such duties as may reasonably be required.

Education & Experience

  • Significant practical experience in resistance welding, with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience.
  • Experience within an aerospace or precision manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience of working with Stainless Steel, Titanium, Jethete and/or Nimonic materials desirable.
  • Experience of working to customer-specific standards and procedures, including Rolls-Royce standards, desirable.
  • Relevant welding qualifications or technical training desirable.
  • The Company will provide appropriate training and support to ensure the successful candidate is fully trained and competent in the processes and requirements of the role.

Logistics

  • Based on site at our factory in Castle Donington – Dynamic Aerospace Fabrications Ltd, 10a Sills Road, Castle Donington, Derby, DE74 2US
  • Starting Salary – £31,000.00-£33,900.00 per annum
  • Full time, 39 hours per week
  • Hours – The role is currently based on day shift:
    o Monday to Thursday 7am-3:30pm, Friday 7am-12pm
    o However, the successful candidate must be flexible to work a 2 shift pattern to meet business requirements
