We are seeking an experienced and hands‑on HR Manager to lead and deliver all aspects of the People function within a growing health‑tech scale‑up. As the company’s first dedicated HR hire, the role will own day‑to‑day HR operations, employee relations, people processes, and organisational development, while building a scalable people function for future growth. The position is based in our London office near Chancery Lane, offered on a hybrid basis, 4 hours per day, 20 hours per week, Monday‑Friday. External specialist HR/legal support will be available for complex matters.
Core Responsibilities
- Own and manage all HR operations across the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, probation, performance management, promotions, and offboarding.
- Act as the primary point of contact for all employee relations matters, including disciplinaries, grievances, performance concerns, absence management, and workplace issues.
- Ensure company policies, contracts, and HR practices remain compliant with UK employment law and aligned with business needs.
- Maintain and improve HR systems, processes, documentation, and employee records.
- Support hiring managers with recruitment processes, interview coordination, and hiring best practices.
- Develop and maintain employee policies, handbooks, and people processes appropriate for scaling the business.
- Partner with managers and founders to provide pragmatic HR advice and coaching.
- Support the development of performance management, engagement, and culture initiatives.
- Identify areas for improvement and help build a scalable people function as the company grows.
- Manage relationships with external HR and employment law advisors where required.
- Contribute to organisational planning, workforce development, and future people strategy.
Requirements
- 6–10+ years of HR generalist experience, ideally within a scale‑up, SME, or high‑growth environment.
- Proven experience independently managing employee relations cases and advising managers on HR matters.
- Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
- CIPD Level 7 qualification preferred, or CIPD Level 5 with significant relevant experience.
- Experience building or improving HR processes in a growing organisation.
- Comfortable operating as a standalone HR professional with a high degree of autonomy.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust across all levels of the organisation.
- Pragmatic, commercially minded, and able to balance people and business priorities.
- Highly organised and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience within technology, digital health, healthcare, or regulated environments would be advantageous.
