Effectively managing dynamic demand and monitoring and controlling the intake of goods. More specifically managing the movement and storage of goods together with detailed and complex associated information from the beginning to the end of the supply chain.

Responsible for managing processes involved in a supply chain and liaises with a variety of parties, including suppliers of raw materials, manufacturers, retailers and, increasingly, consumers. The Logistics Department coordinates processes to ensure customer satisfaction.

An awareness of and strategic response to external influences, such as legislation, is vital. The role of the distribution department within logistics may involve transportation, stock control, warehousing, and ensuring structures are in place to monitor the flow of goods and materials.

IT plays a key part within the logistics field in forecasting increasingly complex systems of stock levels, delivery times, transport costs and performance evaluation.
