Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced AIX Engineer to support, administer, and maintain critical IBM Power Systems environments running AIX versions 5.3 through to 7.1. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, security, and operational integrity of business-critical AIX infrastructure. The role requires extensive experience supporting both legacy and modern AIX environments, working within secure and highly regulated operational environments. The engineer will work closely with infrastructure, application, storage, networking, and security teams to deliver operational support, problem resolution, platform improvements, and lifecycle management activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, support, and maintain AIX 5.3, 6.1, and 7.1 operating system environments.
- Monitor system performance, capacity, and availability to ensure service continuity.
- Perform operating system patching, maintenance, upgrades, and security remediation activities.
- Manage Logical Partitions (LPARs) and virtualised IBM Power environments.
- Administer and support Virtual I/O Server (VIOS) infrastructure.
- Configure and maintain storage connectivity, including SAN-attached systems and multipathing technologies.
- Perform system troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and incident resolution.
- Support backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
- Implement and maintain system hardening in accordance with security standards and compliance requirements.
- Participate in change management activities, including planning, testing, and implementation.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, support procedures, and operational runbooks.
- Work collaboratively with project teams to deliver infrastructure enhancements and platform upgrades.
- Provide support for business-critical applications hosted on AIX platforms.
