Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled AIX & Red Hat Linux Engineer to join our team and work on-site with one of our UK-based clients. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise UNIX/Linux systems in a secure environment. The successful candidate will have strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain IBM AIX and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems.
- Manage LPARs, VIO servers, and HMCs in IBM Power Systems environments.
- Monitor and optimize system performance across AIX and RHEL platforms.
- Perform OS upgrades, patching, and backup/recovery operations.
- Automate administration tasks using shell scripting, Ansible, or similar tools.
- Collaborate with client stakeholders and internal teams to support business-critical applications.
- Ensure compliance with security and audit requirements.
- Provide on-site technical support and participate in on-call rotations.
- Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations and operational procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in AIX systems administration.
- 3+ years of experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
- Strong knowledge of IBM Power Systems, LPARs, and VIO servers.
- Proficiency in shell scripting (Korn, Bash, etc.).
- Experience with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet).
- Familiarity with SAN storage, networking, and virtualization.
- Excellent customer-facing and communication skills.
- Knowledge of LDAP for authentication and directory services.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a client environment.
- Must hold or be eligible for UK Government Security Clearance.
Desirable Skills
- Python scripting for automation and integration tasks.
- IBM Certified System Administrator – AIX.
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Engineer (RHCE).
- Experience with hybrid cloud environments or containerization (Docker, Podman).
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix).
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Demonstrated experience managing both AIX and RHEL environments in enterprise settings.
