Role Summary
As part of our overall investment and growth strategy in the UK we are hiring experienced Application Architects to join our team. The Application Modernisation Architect is responsible for leading the transformation of legacy applications into modern, scalable, and cloud-native solutions. This role involves assessing existing systems, designing future-state architectures, and guiding development teams through the implementation of modern technologies and practices. The architect ensures alignment with business goals, technology standards, and security requirements.
Over time you’ll have the opportunity to work on a wider range of assignments, e.g Software development, platform automation, applications management, across a broad portfolio of clients from many sectors e.g., Public Sector, Health, Finance, Energy, Transport, Retail, and Manufacturing, encompassing a wider range of business challenges. You’ll thrive using agile methods and enjoy working collaboratively with business units and multidisciplinary teams. You’ll contribute to the digital transformation of an organization.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- Assessment & Strategy: Evaluate legacy applications and infrastructure to identify modernisation opportunities. Develop modernisation roadmaps aligned with enterprise architecture and business strategy. Recommend appropriate cloud platforms, microservices architectures, and modernization patterns (e.g., rehost, refactor, rearchitect).
- Architecture & Design: Design scalable, resilient, and secure application architectures using modern technologies (e.g., containers, serverless, APIs). Define integration strategies with existing systems and third-party services. Ensure architectural decisions support DevOps, CI/CD, and agile delivery models.
- Technical Leadership: Collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers, DevOps engineers, and business stakeholders. Provide technical guidance and mentorship on modernisation best practices. Lead proof-of-concept initiatives and technology evaluations.
- Governance & Compliance: Ensure solutions comply with enterprise security, data governance, and regulatory requirements. Establish architectural standards and documentation for modernised applications.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in application modernisation. Promote innovation and continuous improvement across the application portfolio.
Skills Required:
- Proven experience in application architecture and modernisation projects.
- Strong knowledge of public and hybrid cloud platforms.
- Expertise in microservices, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and API design.
- Familiarity with legacy systems (e.g., monolithic applications, mainframes) and migration strategies.
- Experience with Agile and DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies.
- Awareness of emerging security issues.
- Awareness of emerging AI trends such as generative AI, large language models, and edge AI, and their impact on application architecture.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Certifications in cloud architecture (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert).
- Experience with enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF).
- Agile certification.
